A little post race relaxation burying 16 year olds in the sand ends a good weekend of racing.

THIS WAS A GREAT DAY!

My plan worked perfectly until cramps prevailed during the middle of the run.  I still posted a HUGE personal record. I thank everyone that put in the effort to make this happen.  Only 1:57 away from Hawaii!

THIS WAS A FUN WEEKEND

Everything worked out well.  The rain even held off for the kid's race on Sunday. Yes, that is a Spartan's jersey.  I had to break it out due to my guest status and being afraid of getting a flogging while asleep!

WHAT ELSE DO YOU DO IN Q ROO?

Even with a really sore back, I still found time for my passion. People thought I was crazy doing this in the middle of the day.  What else is new?

2009 Racing For Recovery Half Ironman

ANOTHER SUCCESS

This was a day I was unsure of.  The morning started out with thunder, lightning and rain.  Okay, we will forget about the wind and the waves in the big lake.  Anyhow, I had a really bad swim but things got better from there.  My bike was smooth and steady and I actually didn't go 100 percent there (I felt a little weak).   The sun came out and the run went really well.  I developed a quad cramp at mile one but it slowly went away and it was clear sailing around 7:00 or so for the rest of the run.

Sorry, no bike photos!

Jayne also did the sprint race and finished really high up in the standings.  She's ready to make the move up and I'm proud of her progress!

2009 Ironman Louisville Training

THANKS JAYNE!

Jayne and I went to Louisville so I could introduce her to some hills as well as allowing me to train for this year's upcoming Ironman event.  Everything went off without a hitch and I an hoping for more time in the saddle before the race.  I need to spend more time down there.

2009 Pokagon Olympic Triathlon

IMPROMPTU SUCCESS

Janet invited me to this race at the last minute.  I had zero prep time and no good sleep all week.  You could not ask for worse racing conditions but hey, sometimes you just have to deal with it.  I went with the 100mm front and disc despite 25+mph winds.  It's all good.  Top 10 overall and age group win by several minutes.  I will take it for a race in May and being from Michigan.

2009 Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon

WHAT A GREAT  COMEBACK EVENT!

This was a marathon PR that was badly needed. I also re-qualified for Boston Marathon and will be headed there for next year's race in 2010.  Jayne also had a fantastic race.  What a great weekend altogether.  Just a perfect event!

I LOVE THIS EVENT!

This was my first event racing in my Brooks ID Team gear.  Everything went off smoothly.  Good sleep, food and weather! We shall shoot for 1:20 next spring!

2008 Ironman Louisville

1 MONTH AFTER LOWER BACK SURGERY?

I participated in this race 1 month after open back surgery.  I teetered back and forth about bringing my bike or for that matter even starting the race.  After weeks of being depressed about not participating, I decided this gets me one step closer to my dream of Kona.

I did the swim....very slowly.  I thought about dropping out on the bike at mile 20 but made it to mile 40 and through the major climbs on the bike.  Due to the lack of strength and pain from surgery, I had to drop out during the bike.  Looking back, I am pleased I didn't give up and started the race. Thanks to my father for coming with me and putting up with a moody athlete.

I am signed up for 2009!

2008 Palm Springs Half Marathon

1/2 MARATHON PR!

For a first race in California, I had a great morning.  Any time you can run in February with a tank top and shorts is a great time.  I just tried to run solid and ended up averaging under a 7:00 pace for the race.  It wasn't quite Crim speed but I felt pretty decent through the majority of the race.  I was strong in the climbing sections and that is always a good sign for me.  This was a great starting race for the year.

2008 Greater Lansing Women's Magazine

I was selected to teach this special spinning class for a wonderful group of ladies.  We had a fantastic time and I hope to do it again very soon.

2007 Ironman Louisville

IRONMAN PR!

The water was hot.  The current was high.  The heat was crazy and the sun was blistering....what a great day for an Ironman!  I had fantastic race support from my family and best friend.  One of my athletes, Carissa, completed her first IM here.  That was a treat for me as well.  I almost made it to Kona and I got a taste of what it would really be like as I watched others get called.  I cannot wait!!!!

2007 Motor City Mile Swim

This was a tough morning for me.  The current was pretty strong and I had a hard time keeping on course.  I tried to sight the buoys rather than just follow bubbles.  That was a mistake at this race.  Oh well, my father came with me and we had a great weekend!

IRONMAN PR!

The water was a cool 60 but the waves and wind were the worst in the history of this event.   I started out the day with a rough swim but made it through in one piece.  The bike went smoothly and my pacing was a little slow but very good for my division.  The run was almost there.  A little more dialing and I am right where I need to be.  I hit two of my three major goals for this race!

The race was a success and Trish was a huge help!  She volunteered at the first aid station on the run and was there for me all week.  I look forward to Ironman Louisville in August.

The water was an outright  cold 52 degrees!  The air temp changed from 50 at race start to 80 by the end of the run.  I had a great day and it was well worth the long drive.

I'M GOING TO BOSTON BABY!

It was a freezing at gun time. There were 20mph winds for the entire run.  At least we stayed dry.  I didn't shed any clothes layers until mile 21 or so.  During this race, I struggled to find a solid cadence but ended up with a great time.  My family came out to watch me race while braving the  elements for a couple glimpses and cheers.

The soreness in my legs was barely manageable until Thursday.  Obviously, a different type of race for me.  What a great way to cap off the year!

2006 Crim

It was a very humid morning.  I'm not a huge fan of racing without a shirt on but it was either that or roast to death.  I had a great morning and was happy my results for that distance. This was a large-scale and very fun event.

ALWAYS WEAR YOUR HELMET!

Thank you to my team for a great race!  We won the relay by 24 minutes despite the spill on the bike.  I am anxious to get back to the sport.  I loved being in the competitive atmosphere again and seeing all our racing friends.  Great job to Bob, Nikki, Janet, Beth, Jenna, Margie and Bill.  You guys had terrific days!.

Ironman Wisconsin Training Camp

                Chris Legh              Paula Newby Fraser

What a fantastic weekend!
Trish and the kids came to Madison with me for the camp.
We swam in the lake, rode 90 miles of the course
and ran one loop (13.1 miles) of the marathon course.
I felt strong all weekend and set a PR of 1:38:00 for a half marathon.

2004 Big Fish Triathlon - Age Group Winner!:

This was a great day!
It was shared with my brother John who took second in his age group for the duathlon.
I took my age group in the swim and overall.
I rode as hard as I could and sprinted the last 1.5 miles.
It took my all to keep the second place guy off my heels.
Every time I heard his feet, I picked it up!
All out effort and completely worth it!

2004 Seahorse Olympic Triathlon:

With storms in the forecast, this was looking like a gloomy day.
The race started and the rain held off!
I had a good swim and a killer bike.  The run was changed from past years to all trails.
It was poorly put together but I made it through.
I achieved a goal of top 10 in my age group for a sold out Olympic event! - #7

2003 Sylvania Triathlon:

Another great day!
Trish helped with body marking and it was wonderful to have her there cheering me on.
This was a nice course and my first swim without a wetsuit. I will be back to Sylvania!

2003 Great Lakes Championship Triathlon:

2003 Seahorse Triathlon:

What a great day! My family came to cheer me on.
They all volunteered for the race and were there waiting at the finish line!

2003 Ann Arbor Triathlon:

This was a tough race.
The water was cold - The swim start was Chaos
I got called for drafting (without trying to) - The trail run was really steep
It absolutely poured rain after the tri.
Other that that it was a great day.
I saw lots of friends, old and new.  I wish the family could have made this race!

2002 Stony  Creek Triathlon - Age Group Winner!:

We got a little wet this day.
Rain at the swim start and a little drizzle on the bike.
The day was good enough for 1st in Age Group!.
