This page was designed to keep sponsors informed on how things are going as well as providing a journal of my training. 2005....What the heck is going on? The first thing I would like to say is thank you to everyone for all your support. Obviously things have not turned my direction for this year. Ironman USA would have been coming up next weekend and we'd be packing for Lake Placid today. I spoke with the IM North America people at length this week. I am in for 2006 for sure and am really looking forward to it. I miss it badly. Here is the injury update. My shin, I hope, is mending. My bad days are getting better (sort of like getting better at golf) and there are some days I do not feel it at all. I have done some long rides and had no problems but have done some shorter ones and felt it. I am seeing a sports med doctor this upcoming week and think I'll be able to get some stimulation therapy or something that may speed things up. Okay, Sunday was not a good day. You'll read on the race results page I suffered some further injuries in a 30mph bike crash. As of today, more and more range of motion is coming back in my shoulder. My knee, shoulder and hip are sore. My neck is getting slowly less sore and my head aches are not as severe. My vision is fine but I still feel a little "cloudy". Last time I had a concussion it took a week and a half before I was "normal" again (if can you say normal and Jim in the same paragraph). I hope to be in the pool by the end of next week. I'll know more on starting up slowly with running by Wednesday but hope it is coming in a week or so as well. I will return to teaching Spinning the week after next week. I'll be teaching the Tuesday 6am class. I'll have to start out slow and work into it but I am really looking forward to it. I hope to turn the page on all of this bad luck very soon. The more I talk to elites in the sport, the more normal I find all of this. Unfortunately, I'm paying my dues all in one year. I recently found out one of my friends and sponsors found out she has stage 4 ovarian cancer. This woman is an amazing athlete and a stand out human being. I've only known her for a few months but feel I've been with her for years. Thoughts of her and her family consume my thoughts. Please pray for Susan and her family to beat cancer. She's a strong woman and a wonderful wife and mother. I'll keep you posted on what is going on after this week. Also, I start writing my book this weekend :-)
Training Notes for Week 4 - 02/28/05-3/6/05 This has been a true test of my mental capacity! I was accepted by Team Amino Vital as a sponsored athlete for 2005 but I cannot train right now due to injury. I took the week before this completely off. I took it easy this week hoping for better news. You'll see, I was up and down mentally, all from walking! Things are healing, but very slowly. The muscle issue in my left leg, I can work around. The fracture in my right shin is what's hampering me. I'll get through it, I just had different plans for the beginning of this year! Thank you for sticking by me. I appreciate your prayers and support! I'll be back to 100% soon!!! Here is my very reduced schedule for the week. Keep in mind the injuries and I was in CA training (classroom wise) all week! Monday

- Training Notes for Week 2 - 02/7/05-2/13/05 This has been a better week than last! Most of the flu is gone. I am not dizzy and have been able to pick back up my workouts. My shin is feeling better and I should be back up to running hard (and smart) very soon. Hey, sometimes you just have to adapt. This morning I swam without pushing off the walls. I looked absolutely ridiculous but, it felt better overall and last time I checked there were not any walls in the lake and I know there are none in KONA. If I have to do that for now, you know I will. It is never easy to have things go different than planned but sometimes I think that's what makes you a stronger person on the inside! My son Grant my son Grant may participate in an indoor track meet this week. He'll try his luck in the 1500m. Wish him luck! Thank you for your support and God bless! 160 days until Ironman USA! - Training Notes for Week 1 - 01/31/05-2/6/05 This has been a tough week to choose as week 1. That what Ironman is all about though. I have had a bad cough the last two weeks but the flu hit me head on this week. Wednesday I had to get a sub half way through the 5:30 spin class as well as have him cover 7:00. As I type this, it is over 50 degrees out and I should be on my bike. My head cold is so severe, I cannot see straight and have no balance. I don't think riding is an option. I will continue to rest today and get rid of this as soon as possible! IM is 167 days away! Monday
