2.06.10

2010's first race has been completed.  Jayne and I headed down to Miami for the ING Miami
Marathon.  She competed in the half and I in the full.  This was her first race back from a
stress fracture so finishing it was of the utmost importance mentally.  Great job Jayne!!!

My race went well despite some lessons learned.  While there were no real hills to speak of.
It was hot, extremely humid and the roads were really crowned badly, especially near the end
of the run.  I found myself going back and forth, looking for a good flat spot but could not find
one.  Scouting up ahead, it looked like I was not alone in the quest. I paid for the race with
huge blisters and extremely sore legs and ankles.

I ended up with the same time as the last marathon but ranked a lot better overall.  I think it
was just a tough day for everyone.  Much more training is to come.  Boston Marathon is
next followed by either the half or the full at the 2010 Flying Pig.

12.31.09

2009 is in the books. As I am getting stronger every day from surgery,  I can look back on
     some very big positives!

PRs at every distance I raced....
     5k Run
     Half Marathon
Marathon (qualified for Boston for 2010)
     Olympic Distance Triathlon
     Half Ironman Triathlon
     Ironman Triathlon - my love

I had a change of luck and was accepted into Boston so I will be able to race there in
2010!  I was very happy about that and look forward to that as well as the Miami Marathon
    in January of 2010.

I am happy to announce that Trijimi.com will be running a camp, training and coaching sessions
for  the Unites States Women's Triathlon Series event in Naperville, Illinois.  Training starts in
April and the details can be found on this page of my website-  www.trijimi.com/jimi/uswts.htm
This event is for every female interested in the sport. It is a female only event, sorry guys!
There will be everything from mountain bikers to pros there.  It is a huge race and a ton of
fun. Training will take place in the Lansing MI area.  I am hoping for 20-30 racers.  I will post
The exact race date and hotel location/information as soon as it becomes available.  Coaching
spots are on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Thank you to Brooks Running, De Soto Triathlon Gear, Rudy Project Helmets and Glasses,
InfinIT Nutrition and F1 Ceramics for backing me for the 2010 season.  I really appreciate it
and look forward to working more in depth on team apparel for the upcoming season.

Thanks to my training partner, Jayne for making sure I busted my butt and for keeping me on
track through some tough times in 2009.  I was pushed hard to get my butt back in the game.
Thanks to Gordo Byrn and Bree Wee for some inspiration that they may be completely
    unaware of.

I look forward to 2010.  I have a HUGE training schedule to jump into and am building right now
for it.  The drive for Kona will be even more challenging this year but I will be willing to do whatever
it takes to get there.  1min and 57sec was all that kept me from seeing the big island this year.

I hope to have more photos and such up soon.  I am on Facebook  "Tri Jimi" is the profile name.
Look me up, tell me your triathlon stories, offer advice, ask for advice, I just love this sport.

11.30.09

I am registered for the 2010 Miami Marathon and am still working out the kinks to see about a 2nd
planned Ironman event for 2010.  The optimum plan for me would be able to do 2-3 plus a couple
half IM events and work on different pacing strategies.

As winter closes in here in Michigan, clothing and juggling workouts becomes premium.  The
quest to get in more pool distance is working well.   The 4k plus workouts are getting easier
and I am hoping to get back into 6,500 morning shape by January-February.

Thanks to Gordo Byrn for inspiration for the last couple months.  I have enjoyed some new
workouts and have been sharing the wealth with my athletes.  Epic camp will someday be in
     my future.

I hope very soon to announce the plan for the all-women's triathlon camp, training sessions and
sprint tri event for spring of 2010.  The training will be 8 weeks and I look forward to working
with everyone and cheering them on at the event.

2010 should be an awesome year.  I'd like to break through and move to the next level.
Change, Sub 10hr Ironman, Sub 3hr marathon, more events, team gear, motivated athletes
     .......success!

11.6.09

I am in the process of signing athletes for the 2010 season.  I am also looking to renew
my sponsorships and doing anything I can to make it to Kona.  I have picked up my swimming
and hope to continue to grow.

I plan on working hard on the bike and also on my marathon times as well in a side quest
to get under the  3- hour mark.

Things are going well as I am developing my plans for 2010!

9.6.09

     Well......I almost did it!

We left in the middle of the night on Friday to arrive in Louisville by 8:00am.  I was able to
squeeze out a few minutes of shut eye before the scheduled practice swim.  The next two
days absolutely flew by and before I knew it, it was 7:06am and I was jumping into the Ohio
     River to start Ironman #6.

The swim was absolutely horrible and I felt slow, weak and out of sync.  Everything I did
seemed to backfire and I had to just settle for surviving it.  When I looked at my watch, it
was one of the worst IM swims I have ever posted.   I headed into T1 disappointed and
unsure what to even expect from here on out.

The bike went fantastically and everything I planned for went smoothly.  The only real
snafu on the bike was having to stop to get into my special needs bag, as it was upside
down and tied.  I actually started passing several female pros on the second loop (they
had a 16 minute head start and didn't post horrible swim splits like mine.) I rode well back
into town and after a smooth T2, I was off to run.

The run started out really well and my facing was fast but comfortably in the 7:07 range.
After mile 2 and seeing that split,  I decided to back off a little.  Up until mile 11 I was
still running a sub 8:00 pace. This was huge for me but unfortunately this is where some
issues arose.  My stomach was not cooperating and I had to walk a few feet to
recover and eat.  It worked and I was off again. Things went okay again until miles 17
and 20 where severe hamstring cramps basically crippled me for a short period of time
that seemed like forever.  Finally, I was able to move again and I hobble it in from mile 20
at a low to mid 8 pace.  The 3:39:37 was a PR for an Ironman run despite the cramping.
I am really happy I have more room to work with in the future on this section of the race.

I not only crossed the finish line with a new Ironman personal record of 10:13:16 but I
shattered my previous PR (prior to surgery) by about 30 minutes!

Okay, so the "almost" is here:   I finished 14th in the age group and I missed a Triathlon
World Championship slot for 2009 by 1 minute and 57 seconds. This would have put me
racing in Kona on the evening before my 40th birthday. I cannot imagine a better life
altering birthday present to dream of!

All I can do is say thank you to my family and the few friends I haven't scared away.
This last year has been so difficult and I would not have made it without your support.
My plans next year are absolutely monumental, both in training and racing.  I plan on
running Boston again (healthy) and doing two Ironman races.  My goal is to get stronger,
more lean and just plain faster.  I will attempt to dig deeper than I ever have before in training
and commitment.  I will need monumental support physically, mentally and financially.  I am
almost there.  I Just need to take it to the next level.

7.30.09

Exactly 1 year from back surgery and I am exactly 1 month away from hopefully completing
Ironman #6. There have been a lot of things going on in my life and a lot of emotions coming
out regarding this race.  I know I need to strengthen up a lot more and work harder.  This year
has been about coping with the pain and just trying to get back to the finish line.  10 hours,
17 hours, or something in between, I just need to finish and sign up for 2010, 2 would be nice!

Last weekend I entered a race in Canada.  So that is pretty cool, all my races this year have
been in a different country or state.  Things went pretty well and it ended with an interesting
twist.    Jayne has an injured leg so she could only swim.  Her sister, Nancy brought her bike
to ride while away from home.  I talked them into doing the relay but they needed a person to
run the 10k.  We struck out on finding someone so I decided to have Nancy wait in transition
until I was done with my race.  Once I crossed the finish line from the Olympic, I entered T2
for the relay and headed right out for their run portion of the relay.  It was fun to compete as
a team and I learned a lot about calming my HR down after extreme exertion levels.  It was a
fun weekend! Great job guys!  New photos are up.

7.6.09

The last few weeks have been interesting:

I tried a new saddle that forced two weeks off of riding - Never again!
We went to Mexico for vacation and despite back pain had a wonderful time running in the heat
Jayne and I went back to Louisville for an even longer and more intense on-course training session
I have been picking up my bike mileage and making one last push at finishing my goal for 2009
2010 looks to be an exciting year
Jayne and Samantha have been having awesome years!  Keep pushing ladies!

Unfortunately, I have had a couple athletes quit due to family issues or what have you. That is
triathlon and if anyone understands that it is me.  You have to find time for everything and enjoy
whatever you can that provides you happiness along the way.

Less than 2 months to go and it is back to the hills and the heat to see if I can finish this event 13
     months after back surgery.

 6.14.09

I had a good last couple weeks and competed in a Half Ironman, a 5k road race, and coached
two of my athletes at a USWTS all women's triathlon.

Check out the "results" page for my times and placing for the above races.  The half went well
after I got off the bike and I was happy with a sub-6 overall run time at the 5k.  I had two great
weekends full of fun, racing and coaching!!!!  Perfect!  Photos will follow shortly.

5.21.09

I signed on with InfinIT Nutriton as an affiliate. I used these products in 2007 and had one of my

not work with Java, simply visit www.infinitnutrition.us  Use my discount code =  trijimi and you will
     receive my Team Discount.

5.18.09

Well, triathlon #1 for 2009 is out of the way.  Take a look the results page for the latest news.
Thanks to Raina and Samantha for signing up this year for coaching. You gals will both have
     great season.

Things continue to go well in 2009.  This last race just qualified me for the USAT Age Group
Nationals event in Alabama.  I am not sure if I can make it, due to financing, as Ironman
     Louisville is that next weekend.

Training is going fine and I have my first 100+ ride planned out very soon.  It was supposed to
be this weekend but the impromptu race trumped that. I shortened it to 60.

5.5.09

Wow!!!! What an outstanding weekend!  I just qualified for the Boston Marathon by setting my
marathon Personal Record, post back surgery!  I could not have asked for a better weekend.
Great food, company, relaxation and wonderful mental preparation.  It all added up to an
     outstanding race. (photos coming soon)

I had some mild hip pain but nothing to complain about.  Pacing was fantastic and right in
line with how I thought I could run before any thought of injury.  This rekindles some hope for
     Kona someday!

The weekend before the marathon I had some epic workouts and was very happy with myself
for getting through all of them.

Summer is coming and I am just about capped with athletes for the year.  We are all
     ready to go!

3.21.09

The year is starting out as planned.  Just 6 months after open back surgery, I finished a 1/2
marathon in record pace for me.  Desiring to just run 8:00 pace, I finished in 1:29, and that got me
to the line with an average actually under 7:00 pace.  I was happy with the effort and look forward
     to upping my mileage.

I have been able to get on the tri bike and ride outside over the last week.  I have a lot of work to
do and I am working as hard as I can, trying to build while avoiding injury.  I am currently working
at finding a road bike to fit my needs to coach with as well as to ride in group rides, long easy
stuff and to work.  I am looking for a 55.

Seth and I recently attended Trisports.com TriFest in Tucson Arizona.  The weather and show
were great and we had a fantastic time.  That was actually my first ride (over gates pass) of 2009.

I am picking it up in the pool as well as getting my athletes plans ready to go for the year.  Keep
     checking back for website changes.

1.24.09

Happy New Year!!!  I look forward to working with my athletes for 2009.  Swimming, spinning and
running are going well so far.  I am excited for  the weather to break so we can get outside to
     cycle.... Much to do!.

I have received commitments from Rudy Project, DeSoto, Brooks and Trisports.com for
2009 sponsorships and I really appreciate the backing!  Thank you!

12.06.08

Months of physical therapy, doctors, X-rays and MRIs have been getting to me.  But...
over the last couple of weeks, I actually have started feeling a little better in the lower back.
I have been able to combat the above annoyances with love from family, friends that won't let
me give in (even for a minute) and the dream of competing in Kona that wouldn't die even as
I was being rolled in to be cut open.

The road will be long and slow.  I am swimming, biking, teaching spinning and doing some
running now. While it is all at a slower pace than I would like, I am doing it.  That is a lot more
than I could say in June of 2008.  I would like to say THANK YOU TO DESOTO, BROOKS,
TRISPORTS and RUDY PROJECT for staying with me and keeping the faith this year.  It means
a lot and keeps me inspired as an athlete as well!

My goal is to run a 10 miler by Christmas and possible a half marathon by February.  This
should put me where I need to be to be able to concentrate on the bike to get me through for
     Ironman Louisville in 2009.

It looks like I have a great array of athletes on the roster for the upcoming season and I cannot
wait to get things going with each one of you.

9.25.08

Well..... 2008 is over for me for the most part.  Despite my last post, I was not removed from
the list of participants at Ironman Louisville.  I developed a plan of doing the swim, just to say
I participated.  The plan then turned into 20....then 40 miles of the bike.

I made the trip down there with my father.  We had a great time but it was difficult to be
around happy athletes, participating for their dreams.  I accomplished the task and ride up until
about mile 40 on the bike.

I am healing up a little, one day at a time. I miss the sport badly and of course am having
difficulty dealing with not being able to run or race.  Thank goodness for my athletes, family
and friends that keep me going and keep me a part of keeping my dream alive.

Thank you to my sponsors who have stayed with me through the pain of the last year.  I
hope to make you proud very soon!!!.

7.28.08

What a fantastic trip!  I just got back from Tucson Arizona where I purchased my Kuota
Kueen- K from Trisports.com.  Thank you to everyone that assisted me while I was there.
You guys made it a very memorable experience and rolled out the red carpet for your fly-n-fit
program!  I would recommend it to anyone looking at purchasing a bike, tri or road.  Everything
from the warm weather to the cool endless pool was absolutely perfect.

The bad news is I had to officially pull out of Ironman Louisville today.  I have disc surgery
scheduled for Wednesday 7/30/08.  I can no longer put up with the intense almost crippling
pain in my buttocks and lower back and am done with pain medication.  I pray for a speedy
recovery and to get back to what I love the most.  Please say a prayer and help me realize
dreams can come true!  I have spoken with most of my sponsors and they will be sticking with
me for my comeback for 2009.

While I have not been able to train much or race at all since Boston, my athletes have all
been having a fabulous year!! WAY TO GO YOU GUYS!

5.11.08

     Happy Mother's Day to all!!!

I just got back from a 2 week business trip that was in Florida.  The weather was unbeatable
but I was inside for most of the 2 weeks. I managed a little sun time.  Maybe I can get a May
     tan photo up soon.

It may be another 2 weeks and I can start swim training in the Lake.  There is still no word on
the arrival of my new bike.  Pretty soon the 2009s will be out....this has been a frustrating
     deal to say the least.

On the lighter side BROOKS has accepted my resume for the 2008 "Inspire Daily"
sponsorship and I look forward to working with them for this year and many to come.  I have
enjoyed their shoes for several years and walk, train and race in them.

"If they are not black, polished, wing-tipped and shiny, they are my Brooks"

 4.25.08

I am officially a Boston Marathon Finisher!

We just got back from our trip to Boston.  The city was fantastic!  We had fun walking around
and  taking a tour.  Trish and Grant spent a little more time on their feet than I did but I was
out there for a little too long I think.

The expo was HUGE and extremely crowded. Of course I had to buy a Boston jacket.  I
stopped by the Craft booth and bought an outfit to wear for the race.  I will post photos
soon.  Everyone on the course was yelling, "Go guy in the green shirt" or "Go green guy".
     Thank you Natalie!

The race did not go as planned but sometimes that is just what happens.  I had a fantastic
first half and "finished" from there. 3:24 put me 24 minutes behind what I wanted to run
deep down inside and 10 minutes behind my second goal.  The third goal was to finish and
soak up the love from the tremendous fan support...... I did that :-)

I looks like my bike will finally be in the middle of May.  I am hoping to pick it up when I return
from Florida.  We will post photos of that for sure!

4.15.08

. . . Thank you all SO very much!!! . . .

Well, one more year has come and gone without being lucky enough to obtain the elusive
Kona lottery slot.  I thought being on my birthday this year, I may have some "mojo" and get
just lucky enough to spend my 39th birthday racing my dream.

Unfortunately, there was only one athlete selected from Michigan and as usual, NO ONE with a
     last name starting with "Y".

We leave for Boston on Friday and I look forward to competing in another very historical race next
Monday.  Wish me luck.  We will take some photos for you!

ABOVE ALL..... I found out today that some of you wrote very glowing letters for my entry into
this Ironman race.  I am so lucky to have friends and family that really understand what makes
me tick.  It means the world to me that you went out of your way to try to assist in me feeling
the magic of Kona just once!

4.12.08

My favorite eyewear company agreed to sponsor me for the next few seasons!  I'm very happy
to announce that Trijimi.com is on board with Rudy Project!  Check out their fantastic eyewear
and helmets at http://www.e-rudy.com. You can locate a dealer near you here as well.

I finally broke down and bought a kitten for the family.  Her name is of course "KONA".  While
she is a great buddy to the boys, she provides me with inspiration and hope for finally making
     it to Hawaii.

The Boston Marathon is coming up fast.  We are flying out Friday and are very excited about
this trip.  Keep your eye on my blog - www.coachbonestriathlon.blogspot.com for more
     frequent
updates.  I can update there from any computer so keep in touch and say hello
     on that site as well.

3.21.08

Local triathlon registrations will start this weekend for me.  I have set aside some weekends
and have planned out a strategic season.  I'm very excited about the athletes I will be coaching
year as well.  With everything from sprint to Ironman goals, they are setting out for an awesome
     journey.

I have had some great pre-season workouts and am ready for a great year.  Thanks to every
body who has contributed to kick starting my season:

     My Tuesday group cycling classes
My training buddies: Seth, Janet, JT, Jodie, Jayne, Amanda!
Thanks to Susan (as always) and Matt from Trisports.com
Thanks to Dave at Blackwell Research

3.12.08

The season is starting off very well.  With the 1/2 marathon PR last month, I've proven to myself I
picked up some speed over the winter.  On Sunday morning, I braved temperatures in the teens
and ran the year's 1st 20 mile training run.  I made it through that well with just the normal aches
and pains that are associated with the distance.

On Monday evening I was selected to teach a specialized spinning class for the GLW, or the
Greater Lansing Women's Magazine crew.  After a brief set up and instruction period, we started
off on a 44 minute workout.  Everyone did really well and I was very pleased with the effort I saw.
Thank you for the evening ladies!

I am hoping my bike still comes in at the end of the month.  I look forward to visiting
Trisports.com, in Arizona to pick up the bike and obtain my initial fitting.  Thank you to Matt and
the always lovely Susan for their assistance and for putting up with a needy, eager triathlete!  I've
dealt with Trisports.com from day one of being involved in this sport!

The only bad news I have is Amino Vital, the company that has sponsored me for the last three
seasons, pulled out of sponsoring athletes.  We had a great run and I definitely became a better
athlete during this period.  I am currently searching for a new sponsor.  With some major races
coming up in the next seasons I am hoping on finding a great fit with someone.

Up next is the Boston Marathon.  The airline reservations are set and with the 20 mile run in the
books, we are ready to go!

2.18.08

Race number 1 for 2008 is in the books.  While I was teaching out in Palm Springs, I decided to
enter a Half Marathon.  It would most certainly beat running in Michigan weather and it was
something I needed mentally before gunning for Boston.  We have already made our hotel
reservations for the MA trip and I was looking for some more positive assurance.  Check out the
race results page for more information.

I am still waiting on Kuota to build my frame and get it sent to the shop.  I'm hoping to have it by
the end of the month or the beginning of March at the latest.  Less than two months until the
drawing of the famous Kona Ironman Lottery!  We are really excited and our fingers and toes
    remain crossed!

2.8.08

Wow, race season is coming up quickly! I am currently signing athletes for coaching for the
2008 season.  Seth prepping for IM Lake Placid and I'm getting ready for my first stab at Boston.
Even with the back injuries, I have had a few good runs in the last few weeks.  The good news is
the doctors say, "no surgery".  I now have to really strengthen my back.

I have been working a little harder in the pool and it is finally starting to pay off by showing up
in the endurance side of things.  Spinning continues to go well and I just love the group of people
that attends each week.  They have a great way of keeping me going, even on days when things
    just do not feel right.

I have a half marathon planned for next weekend.  It will be nothing major, just an easy run in
the desert of California. After almost a foot of snow the other day, I am really looking forward to
    some sunshine.

I looks like I am leaning towards the Kuota Kueen K as my next bike.  We are just waiting on
the release of the framesets and we should be good to go.  If it is going to be carbon, it has to
    be stiff!

    Train smart!

12.31.07

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Please be safe this evening and set some goals for yourself for next year.
I'm still working on getting back into the groove.  Once things start feeling good, the back pain
starts to show up.  I hope overall, things are getting a little better.   The plan is to get a couple
more opinions and ideas, just in case there is something out there that will work.

We held the AMINO VITAL spinning class on December 22nd.  Even with fairly short notice, the
turn out was fantastic.  I was happy to see everyone so anxious to work hard.  It was a good
test of what we did in the fall to maintain.  If you were there, thank you for your support!  If you
were not able to attend, we missed you.

My plan is to get 25 miles in next week and start doing everything I can to get ready for the
Boston Marathon.  This is my love and passion, I'll do whatever it takes to bring it back 100
percent!  With Louisville in the late summer and hopefully Kona on October 11th, we'll turn
     it around!

11.12.07

The last few weeks have been difficult dealing with what I have finally found out is a herniated disc.
I am going to physical therapy and have made some progress here and there but it is going slowly.
Last week I was able to run a little more than 20 miles and felt okay. This week has been a
different story.  I am able to swim a couple short sessions each week.  I may have to stop flip
turns as they are not the most comfortable thing to do in my condition.   Any extra prayers you
may have, please throw then my way.

On a lighter note, my sons ran the Grand Rapids Marathon as a relay team.  The 5-person team
was made up of 7-11 year olds.  They completed the run in 3:35!  That was good enough to get
them 5th place in the mixed relay division and 10th out of all the relay divisions.  They were by far
the youngest team out there.  Great job you guys!!!

10.13.07

I sold my bike and am currently researching a new ride. As I watch Ironman Hawaii on my
computer, I can't stop thinking about how close were really were to being there.  Unfortunately my
back has hampered all training and it looks like it will be another few weeks before I can get back
into training.  The couple more weeks I take now will make it worth wile later.

I will start a new run-biased program in mid November in hopes to prepare for The 112th Boston
Marathon.  I'll slowly shift to the bike for Ironman Louisville prep.

Thank you to everyone who has made this a fun year for me.  I've enjoyed everything from Age
group awards in a half Ironman to 2 personal records at the Ironman distance.  Some pf the best
moments of the year were watching my coached athletes compete in their first endurance events
and having great success!  I cannot leave out shaking with my whole family during Ironman
    Louisville roll down!

09.16.07

CONGRATS to my athletes on their greatest accomplishments of the year!!

Carissa - 1st Ironman and Half Ironman finish!

    Raina - 1st Ironman finish!

Seth - 1st Half Ironman finish and 1st First overall olympic distance event winner!

WOW!  I'm proud of you guys!

08.29.07

Ironman Louisville is complete! We had a great trip and an overall pretty darn good race.  I was not
sure what to expect with the back problems leading up to the event but it was mind over body for
    most of the day.

The two days leading up to the race it was 102 degrees, muggy and sunny.  On Saturday evening
we got some much needed rain and it cooled off a little.  I think the high on race day was in the
90s with blistering sun.  I have a huge bright red stripe on my lower back to prove it.  My family was
there for support and Seth made the trip from North Carolina to watch me race.  He was right there
giving me my location off the bike and volunteered with my family at an aid station on the run.  It
was nice to see him again and I needed the lift.

The swim course changed due to bad current in the Ohio River.  They kept it 2.4 miles but made it
a little easier.  I had a decent swim although there were no wetsuits allowed and the water temp
was almost 90!  The bike course went fairly smooth after I dropped my chain at mile 12 and it was
lights out from there.  My run started out great with a 7:45 pace for the first four miles.  The heat
caught up to me and I was forced to slow way down, then walk on and off between mile run
sessions.  I ran the last three miles hard and finished in 10:42:51.  That was a personal record for
    me at IM distance.

I was 11th in the age group after the bike and was looking a Kona slot in the eye.  Unfortunately it
was not in the cards this time.  I missed my dream by three people. I am getting closer and it will
happen someday!  Thank you for all the good wishes and kind words.  Once again you all pulled
me through a tough day.  I am happy with everything and excited about the future!  Now I just have
    to heal up a little.

The Blue Seventy Point Zero 3 skin suit was awesome.  I felt thin, slick and was really
    comfortable!
    Thanks guys!!!

08.19.07

Life is changing. My best friend and number 1 training partner Seth recently moved to North
Carolina. Ironman Louisville is one week away and I had a little mishap with my back within the last
couple weeks.  Things are healing, but it forced me into an undesirable, early taper.  That is
Ironman for you though.  I will roll with it and keep moving forward.

I have been working a little with BlueSeventy and if the water is too warm in Louisville, hope to be
competing in a new PZ3 skin suit.  This will be a new experience and I look forward to it.

The forecast is calling for partly cloudy and 93 degrees.  It will be a hot day and hydration
schedules need to be watched closely.

I am still planning out this fall's schedule as well as the next couple years.  It looks like I will be
moving to doing space shuttle miles and gaining endurance.  With an ultra, then Boston and
possibly a double iron distance triathlon on the horizon, things are looking long for me :-)  Bring it
    on!

07.01.07

The photo section is updated.  I will add more from Idaho as they come in.  Happy 4th of July!  I am
recovering and ran a decent 10 mile route this morning.  I'm back on track for Ironman Louisville!

06.28.07

I happened again!  I AM AN IRONMAN!  Trish and I made the trip to Idaho and had a great race.  It
was cold and windy at race start.  The air was 48 and the water was 60.  The locals told Trish they
had never seen wind or waves like that at race start.

We knew it was bad when the Ironman officials decided they would allow athletes a duathlon option
if desired.  Not for this dog!

The swim was rough and I had a very poor time.  I rode very well and just about reached my running
goals for this race.  It will still take a little but of adjusting but I hope to be firing on all cylinders for
    Ironman Louisville in two months.

Thanks to Seth for making this race happen.  Thanks to Trish for rooming with me all week and
putting up with a nervous athlete!

06.16.07

Here we go....One week until Ironman Idaho! I just found out this week I am officially #861.  You
can log on www.ironmanlive.com on Sunday, look for IM Idaho race coverage and track me either
    by name or number.

We will head out the middle of next week to scope out the bike course and swim half the swim
course. It is supposed to be another pretty area.  I cannot see much topping the visuals along the
Lake Placid course but we will see.

Thanks for all of your support over the last year.  It is nice to know you have friends out there
supporting you and wishing you well.

My athletes are doing fantastic and energy levels are high.  I'm happy to have such an enthusiastic
    group!

Keep your eyes on the site for updates about Idaho.  See ya soon!!!

 05.28.07

Well, less than a month to go before Ironman Idaho!  There is a lot going on right now!  Seth and I
spent a few days practicing on the Louisville Ironman course so I should be good for the August
    race for sure.

I continue to work hard on my run endurance.  I am looking forward to a decent split in one of the
IMs this year.  Then I will be able to gauge exactly what I need to dial in for a run for Kona.

Coaching is going very well.  I have 5 athletes signed right now and most of them are racing within
the next two weeks.  My athletes are training well and are going to race everything from sprint
distance to Ironman this year. We have been using Training Peaks software as a tool and they love
    it.

Wish me well in Idaho.  Trish and I are headed out the Wednesday before race day.  Thank you for
your continued support of my dreams!

04.23.07

Race number 1 for 2007 is in the books!  I made the trip down to Virginia to race in a Half Ironman.
The weather was fantastic and I actually got some serious sunburn!  I LOVE IT!!!

Amino Vital agreed to carry me as an athlete for the 2007-2008 season.  I look forward as always
to work with them again.  The nutrition was seamless for the race last week.

There are several busy weeks ahead with Ironman Idaho right around the corner. I'm looking forward
to a great season.  My family bailed me out and helped me get through my bike frame issues.  I'm
riding the same model as before but the frame is new.  Mom never lets me down.

Thank you to everyone for all your good wishes and support!  I'm excited about working with a
couple more athletes this year.  I have seen some great improvement in my current group and
cannot wait to see them race this year!

There should be some new photos and possibly a new look coming soon.

04.01.07

The first century for the season is over.  I completed the ride in Indiana with a couple of friends. We
were only a short distance from Louisville so I got a little glimpse of some of the rollers that may be
on the bike course.  It was sunny and in the high 70s.  I cannot wait for that weather here.

Litespeed is repairing my frame, under warranty.  They assisted me with the purchase of a new
Saber frame as well.  I built it up the first night we were in Indiana.  It wasn't the best timing in the
world but it was totally worth it.  Thank you to my brother John for letting me borrow his bike for the
    last two weeks!

With April here, the season has kicked into high gear.  One race and several long rides and runs
are on the schedule for the month.  I will let you know how things progress!

03.24.07

Oh, the workouts are starting to pick up now!  I'm finally running over 20 on my long run. I
increased my mid-distance run each week as well.  Dialing down the intensity helped quite a bit
    with injuries.

My first half Ironman is coming up in less than a moth.  Last weekend I noticed a crack in my
Litespeed Saber frame.  Litespeed has a lifetime warranty on that bike so hopefully I'll either get it
repaired soon or they will send a new frame.  My brother, John, lent me his bike to ride until my
comes back.  With a big riding trip coming up this weekend, I could sure use my baby, but you
gotta do with what you have.

I am still awaiting the review of my 2007 Amino Vital sponsorship application.  My fingers are
crossed they will help me with a uniform and products for this season.  I've been in constant
contact with Blackwell Research.  They are doing a great job at answering questions and making
me feel comfortable with the purchase of my new race wheels.

The Ironman Louisville course has not been posted yet but should be up soon,  I'm looking forward
to the trip there with Seth to scope out the course.  Ironman Idaho is in less than 92 days now so
all systems must be go!  I'll have to punish the bike over these next few weeks!

On a more domestic note.  We have been spending time fixing up the boy's rooms one by one.
There is a lot to do!

02.09.07

THE COACHING PAGE IS SET UP AND RUNNING!  COACHING (click link)

I'm back to running now.  The foot and shin are healed up.  I've added some Blackwell Research
wheels to my race set up.  There is now a deep dish 100mm front and a full disc in the rear.  The
wind will not have a chance!

I recently went to San Diego for a business trip.  It was sunny and 80 degrees.  I ran at 5am in a
t-shirt and tri shorts.  That rarely ever happens in Michigan, even in the summer.  We are already
planning group rides for the spring.  You have to do something to forget the cold and snow.

All is well and we are excited about the upcoming season.

01.27.07

Things are going well.  Working on the swim has been my key for January.  I had a breakthrough
month as far as number of workouts, speed and distance.  My comfort level in the water is light
years ahead of where I was 6 years ago.

The road bike had to be put away due to some severe ice and snow storms.  I hope to have it back
    out in a couple weeks.

Check back soon.  I will be updating my coaching page with pricing for 2007 athletes as well as
some new contact information.  I look forward to working with you this year!

01.07.07

The temperature has been about as good as it can be for winter.  Seth and I got out for a
mid-distance ride this morning.  Most years here in January, all you can do it think about riding!  I
will continue to increase my pool time and take advantage of the weather while it holds out.  Things
look like they are going to normalize in the near future though.

Carrie, my friend from Outer Graphics is preparing my business cards for my coaching site and I
am looking forward to working with returning and new athletes alike.

I have two more proof reads to go on my book and will be searching for the right place to submit
that. It should be an exciting, yet informative read for those interested in multisport competition.  It
is just as informative for those that have to put up with multisport athletes!

There will be some equipment changes for 2007.  I am in search for more bike speed and comfort.
I know what to expect for Ironman Idaho but they have not released the course information for
    Louisville yet.

We are just a few short months away from kicking into overdrive!  We already have some plans for
2008: The Boston Marathon and a return to Ironman Lake Placid.

    See you soon!

12.14.06

Well, I've had a little bit of rest and am now officially into my schedule for Ironman Idaho.  My leg
is  improving with each day and I have had some fantastic training runs.  I'm going to keep
increasing my distance wisely and am going to give my all trying to accomplish my personal
    dream....Kona.

Winter in Michigan does not lend to exciting, warm, pleasurable workouts.  Tomorrow will be in the
high 30's then add the wind chill of a 15mph wind.  Sounds like a great day for a bike ride!  You
take what you can get here and enjoy every day you can get out and do something!

Once the race directors get their 2007 schedules out, I'll finalize everything outside of the two IM
races.  Teaching Tuesday morning spinning classes has been going very well and I am seeing
some fantastic effort along the way.  The intensity will pick up as training goes along but they are
    ready!

I'm still swimming with the gang on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 5am.  Not
everyone makes it every day but the company is great and it is something to look forward to.  I do
miss walking out the back door and hopping into the lake at 5am though.

I'm still looking for personal sponsors to help with race fees, equipment and travel costs.  My
personal coaching business should start soon.  All revenues from that will go directly to training
and racing.  I love this sport, lifestyle and am looking forward to making my Ironman Hawaii dream
    come true.

    Have a fantastic holiday season!

11.01.06

The season is coming to a close.  Everyone is feeling fat but good abut their results from the year.
Early on I was plagued by the shin monster but we kept him at bay for most of the runs.  I did have
to drop a 1/2 IM in September but came back with a strong showing for the marathon.  I wouldn't
have thought in my wildest dreams I'd qualify for the Boston Marathon this year!  Wow!

My Idaho and Louisville plans are written and ready to go.  I will start mid-November on scheduled
workouts.  This spring will have some really interesting and brutal brick workouts as well as  super
    long rides.

I will be seeking sponsorships of any kind.  Bike parts, clothing and travel are killing me right now.
Anything you can think of to assist would be wonderful! We are going in hot next year.  If all goes
well in Idaho, I may make a run for the big one in Louisville, depending on the course.

My book is done and being proofread by a few people.  I should have more news on it soon.

10.12.06

Well, another birthday has come and gone.  The future looks bright with more races on the
horizon.  I had to skip the last 1/2 IM of the year but am still planning on the Detroit Marathon.

My official schedule for Idaho starts in November so I'll be working on ramping up my swim
endurance until then.   I recently had a bone scan done on my shin and all looks good.  Hopefully a
little rehab on the troubled spots and I'll be back to running at 100 percent.

We talked it over and I am signing up for Ironman Louisville for August of 2007.  This will be a true
test for me, doing two IMs in three months.  I have already made the hotel reservations and will be
online for sign up.  Seth and I will travel there in May to ride and run the course.

Winter is coming quickly.  It snowed and we actually had accumulation today.  That is a little
early.  Moving somewhere warm would certainly be a welcome change!.

My friend Teresa raised some money for IM travel.  I cannot thank her enough!  It is nice to know
that people can see how much this all really means to me.  I could never do it alone.  I continue to
seek sponsorship of any kind for next year and years to come!

08.27.06

The season remains to roll on.  Since my last post, I achieved another goal by completing the
Lansing Legislator Olympic Triathlon, placing second overall.  That was my first podium finish and it
was nice to do it on my home course.  I also just completed the Crim Festival of Races, 10 mile
run at a pace lower than my best 10k time.

My book is almost wrapped up and I'll have someone proof-read it in a week or so before final
editing.  I'm looking at one more 1/2 Ironman race in September, then I'm hoping for closing the
race season out with the Detroit Marathon.

My friends have really helped me though this year and I'm really thankful for being able to pay them
back by competing and racing as hard as I could.  Most of our travel plans are already being made
for Idaho.  You definitely have to get started early on those.

Have a great fall and we'll post again soon!

08.14.06

Just working on getting through the post-IM blues is the number one goal for right now.  Things
continue to progress and my legs are not quite as sore for everyday life.  I have a little PF in my
right heel and my energy reserves are a little low.  Other than that, I'm ready to go again!

I'm completing my race schedule for the year and hope to add a couple more races to it soon.
There was a race close to my house on the 13th.  All my buddies did it.  We had a awesome day.
Check out the results and photos sections for more details!

I'm always looking for Sponsorship for the 2007 season.  I am hoping for assistance with travel
costs for IM as well as bike and running gear. Thank you to everyone that assisted me this year!!!!

07.30.06

I am almost done with my book, "Awake at 4:08am".  Once I'm finished writing, it will take a while
for me to edit.  After that, I'll search for publishing.  The book is a detailed replay of every day over
the last last year preparing for Ironman.  It is a no holds barred look into my life and triathlon.

Expect everything from training to personal struggles, family issues and the stresses of juggling
    Ironman training with reality.

Keep your eyes out for news on the book!

07.28.06

Well...we did it again.  I'M AN IRONMAN!

We had a fantastic trip to Lake Placid and I had a very good race.  Everything went as planned
except for a bout with nutrition around mile 10 of the run.  My goal time was anywhere from 10:45
to 11:15.  The official finish was 11:03:29 so I was right in the ballpark.  That is a 53-minute
improvement over my Ironman Wisconsin time!

With a little more run training and a good day with nutrition, I think my next race may be in the mid
    10 hour range.

Thank you to everyone for all your support.  My friends, family and Amino Vital have been great to
    me during all of this!

Email me if you are interested in a race report.  jimi@trijimi.com

07.04.06

Happy 4th of July! Ironman is 18 days away now.  We are all getting anxious around here.  Training
is going well and I am feeling pretty good.  All my long runs are in and I can still walk!  I had great
results a the last Olympic distance event - see the race results page, and other than a little fatigue,
everything is going according to plan.

You just never know what the day can hold.  I'm going to go in with some expectations and a
personal goal but I am not going to freak out if I have to change something last minute.  My number
one goal is to run the marathon.  I do no t want to have to walk.  I have a lot more running base in
than I did for Wisconsin.  Although it is not the number that I wanted, it is close enough for added
    confidence.

Thank you to all of my friends, family and Amino Vital.  You have helped me tremendously along
this journey.  Due to having to postpone last year, this taper that I just started is two years in the
    making.

Keep checking back on the site.  I plan to make some great changes after the race.

I just signed up for Ironman Idaho for June of 2007.  My goal remain firm - to qualify for Kona in the
    next few years!

    Wish me luck!

06.10.06

Life is good to this point!  I have 42 days left until the race.  I have had my ups and downs the last
two years training for this event, I'd really like to be able to give it my all.

The last few months I have been training with Janet and Seth as well as alone.  A local newspaper
ran an article about me from an Amino Vital press release.  It was neat for the kids to see (of
    course they mentioned their names).

I still am feeling the shin a little but as you'll see have been able to battle through it with ample rest
periods thrown in there.  Over the last month I have been able to fit these longer sessions in with
    my normal training:

    At Lake Placid with Seth:
Day 1: 56 miles in the mountains on the IM course
Day 2: 62 miles on the IM course
Day 3: 100 miles on the IM course, 11.2 mile run on the IM course

    At home:
    80, 90, 130 mile rides
    12, 15, 17, 18 mile runs
100 mile bike/10k run brick workout
    Start of open water swims

The key now is finishing out my training with a couple more hard weeks and then start a good,
smart taper.  I plan racing an Olympic event soon.  I'm just going to take it easy and work on my
    transitions.

05.06.06

Training is going well.  There are less than 77 days to go until Ironman.  There have been a couple
productive,  long training days in the last couple of weeks.  Most recently was an 80mi bike, 10mi
run brick  workout and an 18mi run the following week.

I am currently in Palm Springs, California for a week of work related training.  After a wonderful
night's sleep I woke up to a beautiful, 75 degree, sunny morning.  I planned on an 8mi run north of
town.  Well, it turned into 14.  In the middle of the run was a large climb up a mountain road to a
tram station.  What beautiful scenery!   It was tough but a great, motivational boost for me.

Within the next couple weeks, my training partner, Seth and I are headed to Lake Placid to ride
and run the Ironman course.  It will be a long training weekend but a priceless opportunity to make
myself familiar with the course.   After that, there will only be a few short weeks to build my
distance and speed and then it will be tapering time.

Thank you for your support.  If you are reading these posts, I'd love to hear from you.

The book is going very well and I cannot believe that in a couple of months I will be done with the
    writing portion of it.

Have a wonderful, healthy spring and keep in touch!

04.25.06

I did my first long course triathlon of the season last weekend.  Check out the results page.  This
are going well and my injuries are healing up very nicely.  My first two races of the year have been
    strong and pain free.

The weather is warming a little but just when you think you are out of the woods, it freezes again.
    That's Michigan for you.

I'm really looking forward to the summer months and participating at Ironman USA.  My friend Seth
and I are going to Lake Placid in May for a weekend to train on the course.  It will be a tough
weekend of long distance training but it should also be really fun!

I should have new photos up soon.

04.04.06

Things are going well.  I'm starting to heal and have been able to get some running in.  The weather
has been cold and windy.  Don't ask me how but I have two rides in over 75 miles and plan on a
    century this weekend.

My bother John and I completed the Toledo Glass City Marathon as a two-person relay team this
last weekend.  We placed well (see the results page) and both had a great time.  With the Kinetic
1/2 Ironman in a couple weeks, the season has officially started!

    I'll write soon.

    Godspeed!

03.02.06

Sorry for the long delay.  Life has been going by at 100mph!  Although there are always downfalls,
good things are still a part of our lives. My shin is still bothering me but it is healing more and more
    every month.

I am finalizing my race plans.  I decided to change them up a little but to tweak being prepared for
Ironman USA.  I have included a weekend in Lake Placid to train on the course.  This was
invaluable for Wisconsin and since it is within driving distance, it will be on my plate for this race
    too.

Amino Vital officially agreed to sponsor me again this year.  My athlete packet should be coming in
the mail within the next month.  I look forward to being able to represent them with more
    participation this season.

I'm not sure I'll be 100 percent at all this race season but I plan on having fun and enjoying the
    ride.

I am so thrilled with the support I have been getting from my Sponsor and my spin classes.  I ran a
special class for a fundraiser to help cover travel to Lake Placid.  The room was almost sold out!
Amino Vital kicked in some product for everyone and a great time was had by all.

Keep praying for my friend Susan in California.  She is still struggling with cancer and my thoughts
are with her. One of my goals this year is to save enough money to fly out to see her in person and
meet her family.   I'd love to bring my bike and ride some of the roads she trained on for Kona.

Feel free to keep in touch via email. I have some great plans for group rides and training seminars.

01.05.06

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! The four of us stayed awake to ring in the New Year together.  Honestly, we
could have all went to bed at 8:00pm and still had a good night.  I think the kids were waiting for
some magic to happen when the ball dropped.

2005 is gone and we are all off to a new start.  My training numbers are starting a steady rise.  I
continue to work hard in the pool.  There have been days where it has been difficult just to get out
of the water after the workout.  I did take some rest days over the holiday.  They helped heal up
    some issues.

I'm really concentrating on stretching out my IT band every night.  It seems to be helping out the
old left knee problem.  I made some adjustments to my bike cleats.  That coupled with a gait
adjustment should help me get running some distance again soon.  I hope to start running over 5 at
a time by the end of next week.  The aerobic capacity and strength is there I just have to get the
    shin built up.

2006 looks to be a good year.  I'd like to be with my family more, get healed up and have a terrific
Ironman season.  I've met some great people along the way and hope to continue making friends
and enjoying living a healthy lifestyle.

I continue to pray for Susan Robinson and her family.  She's really a fighter!
